Literally. Asking for all kinds of hands, including varying skin tones, bendy fingers and marks such as scars and tattoos. So if you want your 15 mins of fame (or rather if you want your hands to have their 3:36 of fame) rock up to curtin between 4 and 6pm, which is when a lot of hands will be needed or anytime really because apparently times are also flexible. For more info, email voltairetwins@gmail.com. They also want you to know that your hand might be the next Tom Cruise, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or that they mean your hands will start believing in weird aliens and a dogmatic religion based on a sci fi series.

There’ll be food and refreshments, so head on down for your chance at fame.

Seeing as I remember writing about this last year, I think I missed this blog’s first birthday. Speaking of birthdays, In the Pines is on the 26th of April, which is MY birthday so I think you should all make an appearance. Featuring the likes of Boys Boys Boys, Shock Horror! , Tame Impala, Injured Ninja, The Kill Devil Hills and of course our favourite Perth band, Sugar Army (and much more) I don’t see how you could miss it.

Tickets are $20 for unenlightened souls who dont have an RTRfm subscription, $15 for those who do. Doors open at 11:30 (at the Somerville Auditorium, UWA) and the show goes to 10pm.

See here for the RTRfm page on it – with full lineup and details

There’s something about this band that just makes dancing, jumping or simply smiling a necessity, and so far the only means of a BBB! fix has been at one of their few gigs or listening to one of the two downloads available free from their triple j unearthed profile. Finally a debut is upon us and ready to be launched:

I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel that the musical side of this blog is tending toward electro-indie.
Unfortunately this entry isn’t an exception. =D

Everyone’s talking about the Black Kids – Rolling stones named them as a band to watch in 2008, their ads are all up over last.fm etc.
Haven’t found myself a fan of this indie pop/rock outfit, just didn’t hit the spot with me. However I found an awesome remix of ‘I’m not gonna teach your Boyfriend how to dance with you’ that really made an impression on me. You decide whether the original’s better than the remix.

Get the Remix here (at the bottom of the post)
Watch the original -

Now for the Black Ghosts – great stuff, just brilliant. A joint project between past members of Simian and The Wiseguys, they already have a fair bit of experience behind them. The duo aims to be Gothic;

Gothic (adj). (often initial capital letter) noting or pertaining to a style of literature characterized by a gloomy setting, grotesque, mysterious, or violent events, and an atmosphere of degeneration and decay

This is as opposed to gothic as a genre of music. This has a lot to do with the childhood of both members of the duo. So check out the vid of Any Way You Choose to Give it ->

Frankie is an almost-A4 sized glossy Australian magazine printed with aesthetically pleasing, brightly coloured inks. The perfect accessory to keep in your bag with textbooks for the student needing some alternative cred, the cover usually features a sweet, well-dressed girl with an outfit that the struggling indie girl (or cross-dressing boy) can emulate.

Featuring reviews, interviews, intelligent and interesting journalism, advertisements that actually appeal and features on the designers, musicians and artists you wish you’d heard about before, Frankie is the magazine your art-school friends all dream of writing for.

For those too poor or cheap to actually buy a copy, their website is more than an advertisement for the latest issue. The blog contains entries about the kind of art, music, fashion and craft you’ll find in the “official” magazine, but it’s free to read, print and compile for a homemade-looking homage.

Equal in taste to Frankie magazine but richer in calcium, folate and vitamin A are the black-eyed beans (so titled to avoid confusion with and Google hits for the band the Black-Eyed Peas [Actually, we could use the search hits, we need the exposure]). If you happen to be stuck for inspiration at your next dinner party, perhaps you could try a dish featuring one of the ingredients mentioned in this entry. Consider especially the impression you’d like to make on your guests. The decision between a gourmet roulade de papier mache and an ethnic black-eyed bean hummus or dal could make or break your reputation as a host.

Even if you’re not waiting for their sophomore LP,”Teeth Lost, Hearts Won”, triple j favourites The Grates’ blog, FUTURE OR OTHERWISE is worth checking out. Full of their typical shenanigans and studio progress, it might even make you want to listen to their music. For those who can’t get enough of their video diary entries (unlikely), they also have a YouTube channel.

If you need to fill the gap in your indie music collection, Pae has pretty much done the work for me this post and reviewed some songs on the triple j Unearthed website (charmedquark: check out Tokyo Spares).

/laziest post ever
